About

Glad you’re here

AIN’T NO HOOD LIKE PARENTHOOD.

Hey there, I’m Elysha. A busy mum living with my husband and three children in Wellington, New Zealand.

This blog offers a parent’s unique perspective on raising a child with Global Development Delay (GDD) and all the joys and challenges that come with it. When my son was diagnosed with Global Development delay, I couldn’t find any stories to relate to or to help me come to terms with what this meant for my son and our family. Sharing this journey and documenting his progress here allows me to unapologetically write about it and hopefully build the village I wish I had when we had taken our first step.

Get to know the family.

Supry: Comic book obsessed, plant loving, and a health and exercise nerd.
Nasir: Loves performing, Rainbow Friends, Vehicles. He’s a doting big brother and lives with GDD.
Rahim: A clever, caring, and compassionate little human. He loves hip hop music, his mum, and taking on a parenting role.
Aisha: The most beautiful and happy baby girl. As obsessed with her brothers as they are with her and the Little Mermaid.

Elysha: Thats me! I enjoy working in IT, writing in my daily planner, and spending all my time with my family <3

What You’ll Find Here.

These stories are designed to resonate with parents raising children with disabilities, or even millennials navigating parenthood in a challenging society. There will be a variety of topics focusing on the realities of our journey, the strategies we use, and the resources we’ve found invaluable:
Personal Stories: Honest and heartfelt narratives about our daily life, the milestones we celebrate, and the hurdles we face. These stories are meant to provide comfort, hope, and a sense of community to other parents on similar paths.
Parenting Tips: We aren’t experts. You may find practical advice and strategies for managing behaviours, communication, and daily routines specific to children with disabilities. We aim to share actionable tips that make a meaningful impact.
Health and Wellness: Our origin story dates back to days of gym, outdoor adventures, and nutrient dense foods. We’re rediscovering this part of us and how we involve the whole family. Exercise routines, nutritional guidance, and (maybe) recipes for everyone to enjoy!
Emotional Support: Resources and tips for coping with the emotional aspects of parenting a child with disabilities, including stress management, self-care, and maintaining a positive outlook.
Advocacy and Empowerment: Information and advice on advocating for your child’s needs, navigating the educational and healthcare systems, and accessing services and support.
Community and Connection: A supportive space for parents to connect, share experiences, and find encouragement and understanding. We believe in the power of community and shared experiences.

Our mission at Sos UNLMTD is to create a supportive, informative, and empathetic space for parents of children with disabilities. We aim to offer resources, share personal stories, and build a community where parents can find the support and empowerment they need to navigate the unique challenges and celebrate the special joys of parenting a child with disabilities.

Thank you for being here.
